Unlike the Arta game, Gor Mahia gave the brewers a stern test in the match and it was no surprise when both could not get the better of each other in the first half. The goal was to arrive ten minutes after the resumption when substitute Benson Omala had been brought down in the box by keeper Brian Bwire; up stepped Samuel Onyango to give K’Ogalo the lead.

The lead however lasted for only three minutes with Tusker restoring parity from the sport through new signing Ibrahim Joshua. Gor Mahia was to get a setback when captain Harun Shakava was to be sent off in the 63rd minute but they were able to hold on until the final minute to force the game into penalties.

With no team getting the better of the other with the five regular penalties, Ernest Wendo was to miss Gor Mahia’s tenth penalty a move that saw Tusker win their first trophy of the season after Kirenge converted the last spot kick of the game.
