The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a KES 6 million fine on Football Keya Federation for failing to control its crowd in their Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) match against Morocco.

Kenyan fans had breached the Kasarani perimeter wall and forced themselves to watch the game where Kenya emerged 1-0 winners to boost their chances of making it to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The breach has come with its repercussion with Kenya warned that further breaches would meet sever fines that includes relocating their matches to other grounds.

“The Disciplinary Board found Kenya guilty and imposed a fine of USD 50,000 (Approx: KSh 6.48 million),” noted part of the statement by CAF on Wednesday morning. “Kenya was warned that continued failure to meet CAF safety and security requirements may lead to the relocation of Kenya’s National Team matches to an alternative venue. Kenya was advised to increase security measures by deploying sufficient personnel within the perimeter of the stadium as well as adhering to the road closures on match days.”

Apart from Kenya, other countries that were fined were Zambia and Morocco, Kenya’s group opponents in the competition.

Zambia was fined for failing to present coach Avram Grant for their pre-match presser before their opening day clash against DR Congo.

“The CAF Disciplinary Board charged Football Association of Zambia (“FAZ”) with breaching CAF’s Media Regulations during the Match Day-1 Press Conference ahead of their TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) match against Democratic Republic of Congo.

“Zambia failed to present the head coach at the mandatory Press Conference. The Disciplinary Board found Zambia guilty and imposed a fine of USD 5,000 (Approx KES 600k).

Morocco were fined for an appropriate behavior from their players during their clash against Kenya in the competition.

“The CAF Disciplinary Board charged the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (“FRMF”) with the inappropriate conduct of its players during Morocco’s TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) match against Kenya. The Disciplinary Board found Morocco guilty and imposed a fine of USD 5,000, of which USD 2,500 is suspended on condition that no similar offence is committed during the remainder of CHAN 2024,” the statement concluded.

The fines are to be paid within 60 days of notification of this decision.
