Ulinzi Stars head coach Dunstan Nyaudo believes he has a formidable team that can now compete in the Sportpesa League.

The soldiers struggled last season and managed a 12th place finish with a section of the cub fans having called for Nyaudo’s sacking but the new season has come with a sense of belief.

The soldiers sit at the top of the table after Match Day Two something Nyaudo credits for their ability to maintain a core part of the squad that represented them last season.

“What has worked for me so far is that I was building from somewhere. When you have the foundation finishing your house becomes a little bit easy. I only lost three players in the offseason transfer Issa Lumumba, Yakeen Muteheli and goalkeeper Issa Emuria so building on the foundation I had last season has made my work easier,”” Nyaudo said after battling to a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks.

The soldier further expressed his delight in the offensive players he roped for the team in the just concluded transfer window and praised a section of his defenders for a job well done.

“I didn’t have trouble in signing because I just needed offensive players to complete my team. I went for Leonlevit Otieno, Paul Okoth and Peter Mwanyika. Defensively we have stabilized Brian (Birgen) who did a proper preseason and Bildad Abonga has grown into a good defender. I believe our mobility is positive in our progression as a team,” he added.

Ulinzi who opened their season with a win over Murangá Seal now shifts focus to their next game against Kenya Police FC with the latter set to play their first game of this season in this tie following their CAF Champions League commitments.
