Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje is reportedly close to joining Charlton Athletic in the English Championship

Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje is on the verge of joining English Championship side Charlton Athletic.

According to Serbian portal Nogomania, Sichenje’s club Vojvodina have already sold the player to Charlton for €1.9m (sh 293 Million) with the Serbian club also securing 20% of any future transfer fee.

The tabloid further states that only medical checks remain before the 22-year-old finalises his move to southeast London; the club having been one of the many clubs who had expressed interest in the player.

Other interest for the player came from MLS side Colorado Rapids and Luton Town who are in the third tier of English football. The clubs were prepared to offer a higher initial fee, but were unwilling to include a sell-on percentage.

“The Novi Sad club ultimately prioritised long-term value, believing the inclusion of future resale rights would outweigh a slightly larger upfront payment,” the tabloid noted.

The defender joined Vojvodina from AIK in September 2024 and has gone to make 52 apperances scoring one goal in the process; the player receiving 15 yellow cards and three red cards during his stay at the club. The transfer fee will be a huge sum for Vojvodina who purchased the player for €400,000 (sh 61 Million).

Apart from Vojvodina and AIK, the former AFC Leopards defender has previously featured for PAOK (Greece) and KuPS (Finland) in his European sojourn.

He is set to join a Charlton side who are currently sitting 19th in the Championship having won just one game in their last five putings and would be the second player to move to the Championship from Vojvodina in a span of a year after the club sold Mihailo Ivanović to Millwall last year.

Should the deal be completed, Sichenje will become the third Kenyan International to feature in the English second tier after Ayub Timbe and Clarke Oduor.
