AFC Leopards registered their third consecutive victory in the 2025/26 SportPesa Premier League season with a 2-0 home win over Mathare United at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, November 02.
Vincent Mahiga and James Kinyanjui scored for the twelve-time Kenyan champions in the 48th and 80th minutes, respectively, stretching the club’s winning streak to three matches after starting the season with as many draws.
The goals were of firsts, as Kinyanjui scored his first AFC Leopards goal since joining the club in the off-season window from KCB FC, while Mahiga netted his first goal in three seasons and only his second ever goal at the club.

AFC Leopards coach, Fred Ambani, did not grant journalists an interview after the match due to the club’s secretary general, Isaac Mulindi, barring him from doing so. Mulindi carted Ambani away just as he was about to give his post-match remarks, with protests from journalists falling on deaf ears.
Mathare United head coach John Kamau, on his part, attributed his team’s second loss to “a lack of sharpness”. “We need to improve in our transition. We are struggling to carry the ball forward after getting to the middle third. We will improve in that aspect when we get injured players like Musa Masika back. It is a work in progress. We have young boys we are bringing to the team,” Kamau said.
