The Egyptian Football Association has confirmed that captain Mohamed Salah will miss the country’s next two games after being hauled in their draw against Ghana on Thursday night.
There were worries that the player might have suffered a serious injury in the match but the latest news will be a welcomed one by those from Liverpool FC as they will need their star man to be at his best as they try to wrestle the title from Man City.

“The X-rays that Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egyptian national team, underwent, showed that he suffered a hamstring strain,” an Egyptian Football Association statement read. “And he will miss the team’s next two matches in the Africa Cup of Nations against Cape Verde, and then the round of 16 match in the event of qualification.”
That means the 31-year-old will miss Egypt’s final Group B fixture against already-qualified Cape Verde on Monday and, if they progress from Group B, their last-16 tie as well.
Egypt are currently second in Group B after two draws with Mozambique and Ghana and will face leaders Cape Verde knowing only a victory will guarantee their passage into the knockout stages.
