Tanzania U17 players celebrates beating Uganda U17 in the CECAFA U17 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

Tanzania have been crowed the Champions of CECAFA qualifying tournament for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (U-17 AFCON) following their 3–2 win over Uganda.

The match, stage at the Abebe Bikila Memorial Stadium, saw Tanzania take their perfect outing in the tournament where they won all their six games.

Tanzania who had lost the final to Uganda last year came for revenge and they deservingly too the lead in the sixth minute through Razaki Mbegelendi. But not to lose hope, Uganda levelled matters through Thomas Ogema who took advantage of a defensive blunder from their neighbours.

Mbegelendi then extended the Tanzania lead before Iquman Mbalasalu ensured they took a 3-1 lead heading into the half time break.

Brian Olwa headed home from a corner deep into stoppage time, a reward for Uganda’s improved second half, but the Tanzania’s stood their ground to clinch the title.

With the win, Tanzania, Uganda, and hosts Ethiopia have qualified for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted in Morocco with Kenya falling short once again as they were defeated in the third place playoff.
