He was in Coach Benni McCarthy’s Harambee Stars squad, where his brilliant displays helped the nation reach its first-ever CHAN tournament quarterfinal in its debut appearance. Since the appointment of Coach Benni McCarthy as Harambee Stars coach on March 03, 2025, Alpha has consistently been called upon to represent the nation, where he has risen to the occasion, steadily earning the coach’s trust.

The 24-year-old stated that despite the award being personal, he credits it to his teammates and also to his parents. I’m grateful to everyone who supported me through last season. This is my accomplishment, but I want to dedicate it to my parents and, most importantly, to my teammates because they played a huge role in it.

Onyango has also stated that his club, Gor Mahia, will reignite hope to reclaim the 2025/2026 SportPesa Premier League title despite K’Ogalo’s slow start in the season. “We are working hard to deliver improved performances in our upcoming matches. We began on the wrong foot, but we aim to build momentum from the two matches we have won and, hopefully, maintain the same winning spirit.”

Gor Mahia is set to play league leaders Posta Rangers today, October 26, at the Nyayo National Stadium from 4 pm EAT. A victory will see Gor Mahia record a third consecutive victory and narrow the gap at the top to just one point.
