Yanga beats Simba to lift Community Shield

Young Africans SC once exerted their dominance over arch rivals Simba SC in the Kariakoo Derby with a 1-0 win in Tanzania’s Community Shield on Tuesday 16th September 2025.

The lone strike was notched by midfielder Pacôme Zouzoua after finishing from close range in the 56th minute. The reigning league and cup champions snatched the lead after a hectic sequence that saw Maxi Nzengeli’s shot saved by Simba goalkeeper Moussa Camara right into the path of Zouzoua, who was left with a simple finish into the unguarded net.

Simba has now lost six consecutive matches to their eternal rivals while Yanga continue to dominate all domestic competitions.

Simba gave a debut for new signing Rushine de Reuck who gave a good account of himself ahead of their CAF Champions League tie this weekend. Kenya’s Duke Abuya was handed a start in the game with the accolade being his seventh with Yanga having won six title with the team last season.

Both Simba and Yanga have duels in the continent with the latter set to come against Angola’s Wiliete SC with the first leg taking place on Friday in Luanda. Simba are set to travel to Botswana for the first leg of their qualifying stage clash against Gaborone United, which will take place on Saturday.

SportPesa League: League winner to pocket KES 15Million

The 2025/25 Sportpesa League winner will walk home with KES 15 Million according to Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed.

Hussein revealed the new development when his Federation and leading online gaming firm SportPesa officially launched the SportPesa League ahead of the new season as the 10-year partnership of the top-tier football league in Kenya kicks off this weekend.

“In addition to the money that Sportpesa will give (KES 10Million), the Federation will add an additional 10Million with KES 15 Million set for the league winner while the rest of the money will be divided by the remaining teams,” Hussein said in the event.

Sportpesa had earlier pumped in Shs. 1.12 billion in the partnership that will see the Kenyan top flight receive KES 85 million in the first year with the deal set to grow to 145 million by year 10 and will see the 18 participating clubs receive 60% of the sponsorship funds while the federation will receive 40% to run the top tie league.

In the event, Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karauri announced that there will be Man of the Match Awards in all the games in the league with the best players set for an end of the season Gala Awards that will be sponsored by the gaming firm.

The 2025/26 SportPesa League Season officially kicks off on 20th September with a clash between Tusker FC and KCB at Nyayo Stadium from 6pm.

CECAFA Kagame Cup Individual Awards

The 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup came to a close on Monday 15th September 2025 with Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars being crowned the Champions.

With Al Hilal Ondurman finishing second and APR finishing third, the three teams produced a chunk of players who received individual awards at the end of the tournament.

The Best Player Award at the tournament went to APR FC’s young attacking midfielder Rouaf Dao Memel who joined the Rwandan champions recently.

“This Award will motivate me to keep working hard because it means really a lot to me,” said the player who also scored the lone goal against KMC FC to help APR FC finish third in the tournament that climaxed on Monday.

In the other categories Al Hilal SC bagged the Fair Play Award, while Singida Black Stars FC’s Metacha Mnata was voted best goalkeeper. Zambian International Clatous Chota Chama who recently moved from Young Africans SC and netted a brace to help Singida Black Stars FC win the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2025 was awarded the top scorers’s Award.

CECAFA Kagame Cup: Rupia’s Singida crowned Champions

Singida Black Stars, home to Kenyan striker Elvis Rupia, has won the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup by overcoming Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan in the final staged on Monday 15th September 2025 afternoon.

New signing Clatous Chama scored a brace to lift his new club to a historical milestone in their brief nine-year history.

The former Yanga SC man opened the scoring proceedings in the 19th minute with a low finish and his second goal arrived close to the hour mark from an Andy Koffi cross to make the difference in Dar es Salaam.

Abdel Raouf pulled a goal back for in the 31st minute to ensure the second half was tensed but the Tanzania side held on for a win that saw them walk home with $30,000 in prize money for winning the tournament while Al Hilal receive $20,000.

In another match earlier in the day, Rwanda’s APR received $10,000 for finishing third following their 1-0 victory over Kinondoni MC; Burkinabe attacker Memel Dao scoring the only goal of the game.

Attention for Singida Black Stars now turns to the CAF Confederations Cup where they are slated to take on Rwanda’s Rayon Sports in the first leg from their first qualifying round clash in the coming weekend.

Tusker end Kisumu tour with win over Homeboyz

FKF Premier League side Tusker FC have ended their Kisumu preseason tour with a 2-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday.

Goals either side of the half by Eric Kapaito and Cliff Oruko ensured Tusker arrives in the league campaign full of confidence as they work on wrestling the title form Kenya Police FC.

Kapaito’s goal, his fifth in the preseason, came in the 12th minute as he latched onto a short pass from Issa Lumumba, spinning sharply inside the box, before curling a brilliant left-footed effort into the net.

Tusker had drawn Division One bound side TBM 1-1 in a midweek friendly and had brushed aside league newbies APS Bomet earlier before arriving in Kisumu.

The Brewers, who finished fourth last season, will begin their quest for the FKF Premier League title against KCB at Nyayo Stadium on Friday in what will be the first game in the new 2025/26 season.

Floodlight football back as league action returns

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) Season 2025/26 will kick off this weekend with a floodlight game between Tusker FC and KCB FC at Nyayo Stadium.

The clash will be one of the six games scheduled for round One of the season with matches involving Nairobi United and Kenya Police FC still postponed to give them time to prepare for their continental assignments slated in the coming days.

The Tusker game will be the only match on Friday 19th September 2025 but there are two games set to take place a day after. AFC Leopards under a new management will be hosting Sofapaka FC at the Ulinzi Complex after the clash between Kariobangi Sharks and Bandari FC; both games set to be broadcasted by Azam Tv.

On Sunday, Shabana will be hosting newbies APS Bomet at the Gusii Stadium with Ulinzi Stars travelling all the way to the Sportpesa Arena to take on Murangá Seal; the same day will have Gor Mahia take on Bidco in the last game of the round.

Brace for Moses Shummah in Dynamos home debut

Harambee Stars Striker Moses Shummah bagged a brace as Power Dynamos emerged 2-0 winners over Napsa Stars in the Zambia Super League on Saturday 13th September 2025.

Shummah who joined the Zambian side from Kakamega Homeboyz a month ago was starting a home game for the first time for his club and made an impression on why he should be a regular starter in the team.

Dynamos entered the game with a healthy record against Napsa having not lost to their Saturday opponents in their last ten meetings but their visitors held on for a goalless draw in the first half.

The deadlock was broken in the 50th minute when Shumah leaped high to head in a ball teed by Kondwani Chiboni, leaving the Napsa Goalkeeper, Charles Lawu, rooted to his line. Substitute Chifundo Mphasi, who replaced Masanyinga, struck the post before Shumah was again denied by the woodwork.

‎Linos Makwaza Jr. and Ronnel Manyanga later came on for Adoko and Innocent Kashita respectively. As the game drew to a close, man-of-the-moment Shumah capped a dream home debut with an early contender of goal of the season to double the lead and send the Arthur Davis faithful into frenzy.

Another Kenyan Emmanuel Osoro wasn’t part of the team that won on Saturday but he will be hoping that he can play a part when his team takes on Ivorian giants Asec Mimosas in the CAF Champions League first preliminary round on September 20th at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

CECAFA Kagame Cup: Singida to take Al Hilal in final

The curtains of the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup comes to a close today at the KMC Stadium in Dar es salaam, Tanzania.

The first match at the ground will be the playoff game between Rwanda’s APR FC and Tanzania’s KMC FC with the third place playoff winner walking home with a sum of US$10,000.

In the finals, sides that have never lifted the regional trophy before Al Hilal SC (Sudan) and Singida Black Stars FC (Tanzania) will face off in a highly anticipated match; the winner of the tie set to pocket US$60,000 from the sponsor of the showpiece President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame.

US$30,000 and gold medals will be up for the champions, while the runner-up takes silver and US$20,000.
Al Hilal SC made it to the final after ejected APR FC 3-1, while Singida Black Stars FC defeated KMC FC 2-0 at the semi final stage of the tournament which kicked off with 12 teams.

While Al Hilal SC and Singida Black Stars FC will be chasing their first CECAFA Kagame Cup title, Simba SC (Tanzania) and AFC Leopards (Kenya) are the most successful teams winning the titles a record six times each. Young Africans SC (Tanzania) and Tusker FC (Kenya) have lifted the regional title five times each.
