Serie A giants AS Roma have confirmed the sacking of manager Daniele De Rossi with the club 16th in Serie A.

The Giallorossi have yet to win in four league games this season, drawing three, including Sunday’s 1-1 stalemate at Genoa in which De Rossi was sent off.

A statement from the club noted,” AS Roma announces that it has relieved Daniele De Rossi of his duties as coach of the First Team.

“The Club’s decision is taken in the interest of the team, to be able to promptly resume the desired path, at a time when the season is still at its beginning. To Daniele, who will always be at home in the Giallorossi Club, a heartfelt thanks for the work carried out in these months with passion and dedication.

“Further information on the team’s technical guidance will follow.”

De Rossi, who spent 18 years as a player with Roma, took over as head coach in January when Jose Mourinho was sacked.

A strong end to the season in which Roma climbed from ninth to sixth saw De Rossi handed a three-year contract extension but he only served three months of it.
