Uganda U17 national team in a past game. They have named a provisional squad for CECAFA AFCON U17 zonal qualifiers

Zanzibar are the new CECAFA U15 Champions after beating defending Champions Uganda 4-3 in post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time in a final staged at the FUFA Technical Center, Uganda on Thursday afternoon.

Zanzibar took a 19th minute lead through Lukman Omar but hosts Uganda restored matters at the half-hour mark through Ibra Ssebagala.; the two teams failed to score any goal in the second half of the match.

Zanzibar had to depend upon goalkeeper Mahir Amour once again after he bailed them in the semis as they denied South Sudan a place in the final. The shot-stopper once again stopped two penalties to hand his side the title.

Earlier on, Tanzania finished third 3 after beating South Sudan 1-0 in the third-place playoff. The all-important goal was scored by Kaniki Seleman in first-half stoppage time.

Following the end of the tournament, Uganda’s Owen Mukisa was voted Best Player, while Zanzibar’s Amour was the best goalkeeper. Lazarus Peter George from South Sudan who netted eight goals scooped the top scorers’s gong with Ethiopia won the Fair Play trophy.

The eight teams that took part in the regional Championship include; Zanzibar, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Somalia.
