The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has disqualified Congo from the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Congo and Equatorial Guinea faced each other in the qualifiers of the tournament in matches played on December 21 and December 29, 2024, with the latter lodging a formal complaint against Congo, alleging the use of an ineligible player.

Following an investigation, the CAF Disciplinary Board confirmed that the Fédération Congolaise de Football (FECOFOOT) fielded Mr. Mankou Nguembete Japhet Eloi, an ineligible player, in both matches.
Consequently, both fixtures were forfeited by Congo, and the results were declared 3-0 victories in favour of Equatorial Guinea. In addition to forfeiting the matches, FECOFOOT was handed a fine of USD 10,000 for breaching the competition’s regulations.
The decision means that Equatorial Guinea will automatically replace Congo in Group D where defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Nigeria have been drawn.
