The CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup continued this weekend where CECAFA teams had mixed results in the competitions.
In the CAF Champions League, Kenya’s Gor Mahia went 3-0 down to giants Al Ahly at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday with South Africa international Pacy Tau bagging a brace in the clash.

Somalia’s Dekadaha FC also had a challenging encounter, succumbing to a 4-1 defeat against ES Tunis. Despite their underdog status, Dekadaha managed to get on the scoresheet, but Tunisian giants ES Tunis dominated the game with their attacking prowess and tactical discipline.
CBE of Ethiopia narrowly lost 0-1 to Tanzania’s Yanga in a closely contested match among teams in the CECAFA. Princes Dube was Yanga’s hero, scoring the only goal of the match. Both sides will meet in Tanzania for the second leg in a week.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, Kenya Police FC went 0-1 down to Egyptian giants Zamalek in a match staged on Saturday. Police showed resilience throughout the match but were undone by a late goal in the dying minutes of the first half by Abdullah Al-Saeed.
Another East African side, Simba SC from Tanzania, earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Al Ahly Tripoli. It was a tactical battle as both sides cancelled each other out, with neither able to break the deadlock. Simba will be satisfied with the point away from home, as they maintain their push to progress in the competition.
