Gor Mahia Deputy Patron Eliud Owalo has announced plans to officially launch the Eliud Owalo Foundation in November and the event is expected to attract some of the most iconic names in African football history.

Speaking on Radio 47, Owalo said the launch will go beyond the usual formalities, blending sports and entertainment while bringing together African football legends for a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.

“We will have an official launch of the foundation in November,” said Owalo. “We have invited retired African football greats who will be here for the official unveiling and the strategic planning of the foundation.”

“We are looking at bringing the likes of Didier Drogba, Jay-Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Samuel Eto’o for the event,” he added. “It will be a full house.”

These legends are some of the most decorated African players in football history. Drogba a legend at Chelsea, famously led the London club to its first-ever UEFA Champions League title in 2012. The Ivorian striker also won four English Premier League titles and remains one of the most iconic players in the club’s history.

Eto’o, widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest-ever players, won the Champions League with Barcelona and Inter Milan. He also helped Cameroon win two AFCON titles.

Kanu lifted the Champions League with Ajax and also enjoyed a successful spell at Arsenal, where he was part of the famous “Invincibles” squad. He won Olympic gold with Nigeria and was twice named African Footballer of the Year.

Jay-Jay Okocha, known for his flair and creativity, played for clubs like PSG and Bolton Wanderers, and was part of the Nigerian side that won AFCON and the Olympics.

Adebayor, who turned out for Arsenal, Manchester City, and Real Madrid, was named African Footballer of the Year in 2008 and remains one of Togo’s most successful exports.

Beyond football, Owalo also revealed plans for a day packed with sporting spectacles.

We will have a curtain-raising rugby match,” he said. “Then a game between the African greats and Harambee Stars legends.”

“We’re also looking into inviting Simba Sports Club to face Gor Mahia , then later in the evening, the Kenya Morans will take on South Sudan in a basketball match.”he added.

“It will be a full house,” Owalo reiterated.

The Eliud Owalo Foundation is expected to focus on youth empowerment, sports development, and community-driven programs.
