Dominic Calvert Lewin was sent off as ten-man Everton held Crystal Palace to a goalless draw in an FA Cup tie staged on Thursday night.
It was another poor show by Palace who have had a slow outing in the Premier League with keeper Dean Henderson being their hero on the night. The former Manchester United shot-stopper was to tip Arnaut Danjuma’s powerful strike over the bar before making another crucial save minutes later to keep out a low corner-turned shot.
Palace started brightly in the second half with a thumping shot from Eberechi Eze which was saved by João Virgínia, but failed to build any momentum.
Everton were dealt a major blow when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was controversially shown a straight red after a VAR check for a challenge on Nathaniel Clyne in the 80th minute and it got worse as Dwight McNeil was forced off the pitch with a suspected ankle injury.
The injury forced nine minutes of added time but neither side was able to break the deadlock, meaning a replay at Goodison Park is in store for the Premier League duo.
