Kariobangi Sharks forward Ally Salum has set his sights on earning a call-up to the Tanzanian national team, Taifa Stars, after an impressive start in his debut season in the FKF Premier League.
Salum who joined Sharks in the recently concluded transfer window from the now-defunct National Super League side Rainbow Fc in an exclusive with Pepeta shared his dream to play for Taifa Stars, his targets and what he feels about replacing Mark Makwata.

“I really wish to earn a call-up to represent my country at the senior level. I’m yet to feature for the senior team, but I’ve been part of the junior side, Ngorongoro Heroes, in a tournament held in Ethiopia, where we finished third but failed to qualify for AFCON,” said Salum.
“I pray that with my consistency, I’ll get the chance to play for Taifa Stars. It’s the dream of every footballer to represent their country, and I’d be very happy. It’s just a matter of time. I believe the Tanzanian national team coaches are watching, and I just have to be consistent.”
Salum who has so far netted three goals in as many games while also providing an assist has credited his impressive start to hard work and discipline.
“I’ve had a good start, and it’s just my debut in top-flight football. This is the result of hard work in training, listening to what the coaches say, and then putting in the effort. That’s why I’m able to capitalize on chances and score. Discipline is also key,” he added.
The striker has lofty ambitions for the season, targeting both personal and team success; “As a forward, I have to score. Every game, I must work hard to help the team earn three points. My target is also to win the Golden Boot.”
On replacing John Mark Makwata, who scored 16 goals in 13 games for Kariobangi Sharks last season, the striker added; “Makwatta is a top player who inspires me. I’m learning a lot from him, even though he left the club before I joined. I was a big fan of his. He did great things for the club and built a strong profile here. As his direct replacement, I want to do even better, if possible, I want to outdo what achieved last season. I believe it’s possible, I just have to keep working hard.”
As he continues his journey with Kariobangi Sharks, Salum also has a message for the fans; “Keep on supporting us. Your support keeps us going—it’s what wins games for us and gives us strength. We promise you a good season.”
The player will be keen to build on his impressive start when they face Kakamega Homeboyz in their next league game.
