Timothy Ouma has revealed the reasons behind his move from IF Elfsborg to Slavia Praha of the Czech Republic.

The midfielder had been linked with moves to France and England but settled on Praha a decision he says wasn’t an easy one to make.

“It wasn’t an easy decision, but I sat down with my agent, and in the end, we agreed that I should come here. That Slavia would be the best choice for me. Slavia is a big team with a lot of international players. I can’t wait to join the players. We’ll see what the next part of the season will be like for all of us,” Ouma said in his first interview with the club.

On his first impression of the club after being taken through their museum, Ouma added, “It’s a great feeling. I’m looking forward to running out onto the pitch, trying to be a valuable player, a difference-maker. I’ll try to do that with every move, believe me. I’m happy to be here. The stadium is beautiful and big. I was only in the city for a short while, but I saw that Prague is beautiful. It’s my first time here, I think I’ll feel good here.”

Being the second Kenyan to play in the country’s top flight after Patrick Oboya in 2007-201 for Banik, Ouma believes he has a challenge to fly the Kenyan flag high in showcasing what they can.

“Someone told me that I would be only the second player from Kenya in the Czech league, so it is a challenge. We’ll see how it goes, I just have to perform well. I want to show myself and my country in the best light,” he added.

On his best position and his experience in the UEFA Europa League, he added, “I’m a box-to-box midfielder; number six or number eight. It was a different experience (in the Europa League), stronger. Good teams, great players and crazy fans. It gave me a lot of experience. I succeeded in the confrontation, I think we played interesting results with Elfsborg.”

On his best match in the Europa League, Ouma chose to snub Alkamaar (a game he scored in) for their tie against Italian giants AS Roma.

“That was probably the second best. I had a goal and an assist, but we lost. My best match was against AS Roma, which we beat at home 1-0. That was an unforgettable evening for the club. And for me too. I played against TOP big players, but I started with the basics. I managed to score two goals. Overall, I’m happy with the league phase,” he concluded.

Slavia are currently in preseason training and will begin their season against Taborsko in the Czech Cup next week with Ouma hoping to feature then.
