The Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) has handed Gucha Stars some reprive after ordering a replay of their abandoned match against Nakuru Bucks.
Gucha had appealed the Football Kenya Federation Competition Committee’s decision to deduct them three points for deploying Eugene Nyakaga who was considered an ineligible player. It was revealed that Nyakaga was an unregistered in their game against Bucks and was impersonating someone else.

In its decision, SDT found that while an ineligible player had been listed on the team sheet, he did not take part in the match and therefore did not influence the outcome. The tribunal deemed the initial sanction of match forfeiture by FKF to be legally sound but was competitively excessive.
In its decision, the SDT directed that the match result between Gucha Stars and Nakuru Bucks be nullified and a replay be held at a neutral venue to be determined by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee, within 14 days of the ruling.
Additionally, Gucha Stars have been fined Kshs 100,000 for negligence related to the inclusion of the ineligible player on the match sheet. With the fine paid to the Football Kenya Federation within 30 days.
The earlier decision by FKF had Soy United secure automatic promotion to the National Super League while Compel SC were to contest the promotion playoffs.
