Gor Mahia defeated a resilient Sofapaka FC 2-0 at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos in an FKF Premier League match staged on Wednesday.
Without captain Austin Odhiambo in midfield, Gor Mahia fans had started questioning coach Zedekiah Otieno’s selection more so after being beaten by Tusker F in their last outing; a game that saw a section of those fans call for the sacking of the coach.

The start of the game was pleasing too for those in green as Sofapaka started brightly with Edward Omondi having been brought down in the opposition box but the referee waved play on when the Sofapaka bench thought they had earned a penalty.
Gor however took the lead via a dead ball when a floated effort from Enock Morrison was headed in by Geoffrey Ochieng after Sofapaka keeper Brandon Obiero had entirely missed the ball.
Sofapaka stand-in coach Ezekiel AKwana was to withdraw Obiero for Erick Ouma are the start of the second half and they did everything to find an equalizer but were undone in the 70th minute when Shariff Musa doubled Gor’s lead with the vociferous shot that hit the bar before being cleared by the Sofapaka defence.
While the referee pointed to the centre of the pitch to signal a goal, the Sofapaka team protested that the ball had not crossed the line.
Gor remains at fourth position, they are now just six points off leaders Tusker with a game in hand.
