Mali booked a quarter-final slot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations following their 2-1 win over Burkina Faso on Tuesday night.
The Eagles took a third-minute lead when Edmond Tapsoba tucked the ball in his own net and despite having so many chances to double their lead, they were stopped from adding another before the half time break.

Their dominance however paid early in the second half when Lassine Sinayoko doubled their lead with a finish through the legs of goalkeeper Herve Koffi, but Bertrand Traore pulled a goal back for the Stallions from the penalty spot just before the hour mark.
The goal seems to have added Burkinabe the needed impetus and they thought they had restored matters when Issoufou Dayo headed in the final minute but his effort was ruled out for offside as Mali held on for the win despite an additional eight minutes.
The Eagles have reached the last eight for the first time since 2013, and Eric Chelle’s side will now face the Ivorians on Saturday quarterfinals after the latter eliminated defending champions Senegal.
