Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has handed Sofapaka FC right-back Baron Ochieng his maiden call up to the national team.

Firat has some injury issues in defence and with Daniel Anyembe set to arrive at camp on Tuesday, the Turkish has decided to bolster his rearguard with the latest move for Ochieng who is expected to arrive in Malawi later in the day.

Ochieng is not new in wearing the national team colours having been part of the Kenya Under 18 team that finishes second in the CECAFA Under 18 Championship that was hosted in Kisumu, Kenya in December 2023.

He was part of the Kenya Under 20 team in March of this year, representing the country at the Four Nations tournament in Malawi and should join Collins Sichenje and Anyembe who are the only players yet to join their countrymates in Malawi.

Yesterday, Clifton Miheso, another late addition to the squad, participated in the team’s evening session. Miheso replaced Eric Johanna, who was dropped from the team.

Kenya plays two crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers: against Burundi on June 7 and against the African champions, Ivory Coast, on June 11, 2024. Both matches will be at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi.
