Ulinzi Stars’ Boniface Muchiri has revealed that he has been in contact with the national team coaches despite being in the cold for two years.
The winger received a call-up to the national team ahead of their Africa Cup of Qualifiers matches against Cameroon and according to Ulinzi’s assistant captain, he has been in constant communication with the coaches of the national team.

“It’s important to know that the coaches were following up on my progress even when I wasn’t getting called up,” Muchiri shared with Ulinzi Stars media team. “They were in touch, advising on areas I needed to improve. That communication meant a lot to me and kept me focused on what I needed to do to get back to my best level.”
Muchiri vividly recalled several interactions with the coaching staff, particularly head coach Engin Firat and assistant coaches William Muluya and Ken Odhiambo, which reinforced his belief that his time would come.
“Coach Firat told me early on that I was still in his plans. I also spoke with Coach Muluya after our game against Kariobangi Sharks, and he mentioned that the coach wanted me to improve in specific areas. The same feedback came from Coach Ken. I took it positively and knew that with hard work, I’d eventually get the opportunity. I’m grateful to God that it has come now.”

His return to the national team is a moment of pride for Muchir who believes that the trust the coaches have placed in him, combined with their knowledge of his strengths and weaknesses, will help him perform at his best for Harambee Stars.
“The good thing is that the coaches have been following up, and they know what I can offer. Now, I’ll work even harder to make the most of this opportunity, to be part of the final squad and help the team get positive results,” he said.
Muchiri is eager to repay the faith shown in him by the coaching staff and is fully focused on delivering strong performances for the national team.
“I’m happy and grateful for this opportunity. I’ve been working hard, and I thank God for this moment. Now, it’s all about performing for my country and making sure we get the results we need.”
