New Saints FC winger Adam Wilson has expressed his excitement after receiving a call-up to the Harambee Stars provisional squad.

Stars are gearing up for a double-header against Cameroon in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers and Wilson who plays in the JD Cymru Premier League, shared his thoughts about the call-up with the club’s media.

“I’ve been called up to Kenya’s international team, and it’s honestly an honour. Hopefully, I can take part in the next few games and help the team towards AFCON qualification. I’m excited for this opportunity,” he said.

Craig Harrison, the club’s head coach, praised Wilson’s achievement, emphasizing its importance for both the player and the club.

“It’s a fantastic achievement, a great milestone for the club to have players called up for national duty. He’s got big games now against Cameroon in the AFCON qualifiers. It’s exciting for Adam and for the club, and it’s another key moment to have a young, talented footballer on the pedestal, going to play international football at a very competitive level,” Harrison remarked.

Although the call-up means The New Saints will miss Wilson’s services during league action, as the Welsh league will not take a break for the international window, Harrison highlighted the broader benefits of Wilson’s involvement on the international stage.

“As a manager, you have to think about the football club first, but a player’s development, experience, confidence, and the publicity are also important. Kenya has a strong squad with a lot of players at the top level, which gives Adam the opportunity to train and play with them and see a different environment.

“For the league, it’s also good as it allows our players to showcase our league on an international platform and to show we have good players,” he added.

Wilson is currently on loan at the club from English side Bradford City and has been impressive, catching the attention of Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat earlier this year earning a call-up for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers matches against Burundi and Ivory Coast but did not make an appearance.

Now, with the opportunity to represent Kenya in a crucial stage of AFCON qualifiers, Wilson will aim to make his mark in the final squad and help Kenya secure a place in the continental tournament.
