Uganda Under 20 team began their CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) CECAFA Qualifiers with a 3-0 win over Ethiopia on Monday at the Azam Complex, Tanzania.
Godfrey Sekibengo gave Ugandans a 25th-minute lead with Mpasa Swabiri making it 2-0 for Uganda Hippos with three minutes to halftime. Ethiopia had a much improved second half but thy were undone by their own player Biniyam Babulo who scored an own goal in the last minute of the game.

Speaking after the game, Uganda’s head coach Matia’s Lule said; “We are happy that we have started the title defence with a comfortable win. But we still have two more matches in the group stage that we must take seriously.”
In the earlier Group B match played at the KMC Stadium, Christophe Ndayikengurukiye was the hero as Burundi beat South Sudan 1-0; the goal coming just after eight minutes.
Action returns to Group A on Tuesday with hosts Tanzania facing Djibouti at the KMC Stadium, while Sudan face Rwanda at the Azam Complex.
