Premier League side Manchester United has parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag following his dismal start to the season.
The Dutchman’s future has been a subject of speculation with United currently placed 14 on the league table having lost more games than they won.
In the absence of Ten Hag, United have appointed their former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager on an interim basis until a permanent coach can be appointed.
A statement from the club noted: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.
“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
There have been speculation that former FC Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandes is the frontrunner for the position.
