As Harambee Stars prepare to face South Sudan in the second leg of their CHAN qualifier, midfielder Austine Odhiambo voiced the team’s strong desire to play in front of Kenyan fans.
“We are ready for the match. We’ve played together before and are fully prepared, but not having our fans there is a negative effect on us,” said Odhiambo. “Every player dreams of playing in front of their fans. Their presence pushes us, making a huge difference on the pitch.”

In the first leg, South Sudan enjoyed the full backing of their fans, who filled the stands, creating an atmosphere that drove their team forward.
“In our away match against South Sudan, they had a lot of support from home fans who pushed them a lot,” he recalled.
This match will once again be played in Uganda at Nelson Mandela Stadium, as Kenya currently lacks a FIFA/CAF-approved stadium.
The 2023/24 FKF Premier League Most Valuable Player is however optimistic that in the near future, Harambee Stars will be able to play their matches on Kenyan soil.
“I believe at some point, we will be playing our matches at home again because we need that support from our fans. It really helps a lot,” he added.
Despite the challenge of playing away from home, the Engin Firat coached side will be determined to win the match even though the country has qualified for CHAN as co-hosts.
