Uganda Cranes striker Dennis Omedi has been nominated for the prestigious 2024 FIFA Puskás Award.
Omedi joins an elite list of players recognized for scoring the most spectacular goals of the year. The Kitara FC forward earned his place on the shortlist with an audacious Rabona strike from the edge of the penalty area during a thrilling 3-3 draw against KCCA in the Ugandan Super 8 tournament.

Interestingly, Omedi was once on the radar of Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia.
Omedi faces stiff competition from some of football’s biggest names and emerging stars. Among the nominees is Alejandro Garnacho, whose stunning overhead kick for Manchester United against Everton in the Premier League dazzled fans worldwide.
Also, Mohammed Kudus of Ghana is in contention. He showcased his electric dribbling skills with a solo goal for West Ham United against Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League.
The list also includes Hassan Al Haydos’ thunderous volley for Qatar, Yassine Benzia’s bicycle kick for Algeria, and Walter Bou’s last-minute overhead strike for Lanus in Argentina. Other contenders are Terry Antonis for his long-range effort in Australia’s A-League, Paul Onuachu’s flying backheel for Trabzonspor, and Federico Dimarco’s audacious lob for Inter Milan.
Jaden Philogene and Michaell Chirinos also earned nominations for their skillful rabona and volley goals, respectively.
The Puskás Award, named after Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskás, celebrates the most extraordinary goals scored during the qualifying period. Previous winners include iconic players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
