Yanga SC President Eng. Hersi Said feels that Kenya landed in the ‘Group of Death’ after the African Nations Championship (CHAN) draw staged on Wednesday night in Nairobi

Speaking after the draw, Hersi noted that Kenya’s placement in a tough group is part of the nature of hosting major continental tournaments.

“I feel for Kenya; it’s a tough draw, but this is the beauty of hosting such significant tournaments,” he said. “When you host major competitions like CHAN, you should be prepared to face strong teams. Africa has 54 nations, and the best-performing ones are bound to qualify for these events. Kenya finds itself in the group of death, and I wish them all the best.”

He also highlighted the growth of football across Africa, warning against underestimating any team in the competition.

“Our football in Africa has greatly developed—there are no small teams anymore. We can expect surprises from some of the nations that have made it to the tournament,” Eng. Hersi added.

The CHAN tournament, which features domestic-based players only, is set to showcase the best of African talent. For Kenya, the group stage presents both a challenge and an opportunity to rise to the occasion against some of the continent’s finest in a group that includes Morocco, Angola, DR Congo and Zambia.
