The road to the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) has taken shape after the draw for nations that initially opted out of the qualifiers was conducted.
One of the standout fixtures in the second round will see South Africa take on Egypt in a two-legged tie as both teams seek a place in the final qualification stage. Other matchups include Comoros facing Malawi, while The Gambia will battle Gabon. The first legs of these encounters are scheduled to take place between February 28 and March 2, with the return legs set for March 7 to 9.

The winners of these second-round ties will proceed to the final qualification stage. The overall winner between Comoros and Malawi will face the victor of the South Africa vs Egypt clash. Meanwhile, the winner between The Gambia and Gabon will take on Algeria in the final round of qualification. From these final matchups, two teams will qualify for CHAN 2024, joining Group C, which already consists of Uganda, Nigeria, and Guinea. The CHAN 2024 tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in August 2025.
With only two slots available from this qualification pathway, the upcoming matches promise to be intense as teams fight for a place in the tournament. South Africa’s clash with Egypt is expected to be a thrilling contest, given the football pedigree of both nations. Additionally, Algeria awaits in the final round, making the journey even tougher for The Gambia or Gabon.
