Harambee Stars will be back in action today as they take on the Gambia in the 2026 World Cup Qualifier in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in history and it will be interesting to see how they fair. It will also be Benni McCarthy’s first game in charge of the Kenyan national team and many are keen to see how he fairs.

While Stars are above Gambia in the Group F Standings, the Johnny McKinstry side has potential in their side with Brighton and Hove Albion winger Minteh being their main man. But how do we expect McCarthy to line up his team in what will be his first assignment?

With Bryne Omondi out injured, the first dilemma for the South African is to pick a goalkeeper for the tie and we feel Polokwane’s Brian Bwire will be given a nod over Ian Otieno and Faruk Shikhalo. In defence, Daniel Anyembe should slot at right back with Poland-based defender Erick Ouma manning the left back.

At the heart of defence, Johnstone Omurwa and Brian Mandela are set to partner with Anthony Akumu and Richard Odada set to be lined up as a double pivot in midfield. In the number 10 role, Duke Abuya should slot in place of regular Kenneth Muguna.

The returning Masud Juma and Gor Mahia’s Ronny Onyango will be tasked to feature in the wings with captain Michael Olunga leading the goal hunt.

Harambee Stars Probable XI: B. Bwire (GK), Anyembe, Omurwa, Mandela, E. Ouma. Akumu, Odada, Abuya, R. Onyango, M. Juma, Olunga (CPT).
