The Gambia national team head coach Jonathan McKinstry felt their 3-3 draw against Kenya on Thursday was a loss.

The hosts led twice in the game but left with just a point following a late goal by debutant William Lenkupae and according to McKinstry, they gave the game away against a team who didn’t create much.

“Im furious. We can’t play like that,” McKinstry said in his post-match interview. “The Kenyan team created two good chances and didn’t score either of them. The first real chance they got was from their captain with the second coming when the game was at 2-2 when our goalkeeper made a good save. But they scored three goals which we gave them freely.  They were not great created goals. It feels like a loss because we weren’t just good enough on the night,” the former Gor Mahia said.

The Irishman however believes they have what it takes to tackle Ivory Coast in their next game as they will be having nothing to lose in the tie.

“There are a lot of tired legs out there after the Kenyan game. We have Saturday and Sunday to get ready for Ivory Coast. You have to go back to 2017 when Ivory Coast lost at home so they are on a good but we have nothing to lose. We showed recently against Tunisia that we can match these great teams but we have to be serious in everything we do,” he added.

Gambia will be hoping that Burundi can get something from Ivory Coast on Friday so that the gap between them and the leading teams is widened more.
