The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded the Africa Cup of Nations Under-20 hosting rights to Egypt.
The decision came a day after the initial hosts, Ivory Coast, withdrew from hosting the event, citing a lack of finances at the eleventh hour; a move that forced CAF to move swiftly and find a new host.

In a communication on Thursday to newsrooms, CAF noted on their website, “The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) today awarded the Egyptian Football Association (“EFA”) and Egyptian Government the rights to host the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
“This is after CAF having been informed by the Fédération Ivoirienne de Football (“FIF”) and the Government of Côte d’Ivoire that due to unforeseen circumstances, they are unable to host the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025.”
The Egyptian Football Association and the Egyptian Government had previously submitted a bid to host the showpiece but were beaten by the Ivory Coast as CAF looked to balance how regions would host continental assignments.
The tournament kicks off next month where the first game will be staged on Sunday, 27 April 2025 and the Final on 18 May 2025.
