Harambee Stars defender Clyde Senaji has been named as the new captain of Malawian giants Nyasa Big Bullets.

The center back who moved to the club in 2023 has been a pivotal figure for the club, where he helped them to the quadruple-winning season, contributing to victories in the FDH Bank Cup, TNM Super League, Castel Challenge Cup, and Airtel Top 8.

Having been an assistant captain for the team in 2024, new Bullets coach Peter Mponda has now elevated the former Tusker FC man to the role of the senior captain.

“FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda has named Clyde Senaji as the new captain of the first team,” the club said in a statement. “The Kenyan defender previously held the role of the vice-captain in 2024, under the leadership of the then coach Kalisto Pasuwa.”

On his part, coach Mponda said, “Clyde Senaji will be our captain. It wasn’t a difficult choice- he is highly experienced and has strong leadership qualities. Having served as vice-captain last season, he’s already familiar with the responsibility. We wanted someone capable of leading both on and off the pitch, and we were confident he was the man for the job. As a leader, he’ll inspire teammates to give their all for the badge.”

The head coach also confirmed that midfielder Lloyd Aaron had been elevated to the vice-captain role as he believes he has the experience to help Senaji in the club’s leadership hierarchy.

“Lloyd Aaron is the vice-captain. His leadership was evident when he wore the armband in Sunday’s game against the Blue Eagles. He took charge and proved he’s an ideal choice. He’ll work alongside Senaji to guide the team,” he added.

Bullets begin their season this weekend away at the Bingu National Stadium, where they’ll be hosted by Silver Strikers.
