Uganda Cranes veteran goalkeeper Dennis Onyango has come out of retirement after being named in the country’s squad for their upcoming duties against Mozambique and Somalia.

In his announcement, Cranes head coach Paul Put has named a list of returnees ahead of their FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Mozambique on 5 September 2025 and Somalia on 8 September 2025 with both games scheduled at Mandela national stadium, Namboole.

Apart from Onyango, other returnees in the team include Vietnam-based forward Joseph Mpande who returns after more than a decade, while forward Uchechukwu Ikpeazu, who features for Scottish side St. Johnstone, receives another call-up, with fans waiting if he will honour the invitation.

Put has also included 11 locally-based players who featured in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in the team.
