Adel Amrouche has kept Rwanda hopes of qualifying for their first World Cup alive following their 1-0 win over Zimbabwe on Tuesday afternoon.
Gilbert Mugisha’s first-half strike was all the Rwandese needed in a clash that was staged in South Africa as the host nation still doesn’t have approved grounds to host World Cup Qualifying games.

Zimbabwe knew anything other than a win would be detrimental in their quest to tear form books after going down to second placed Benin in their last game on Friday. Amavubi, too, needed to return to winning ways following the disappointment of losing by a similar margin to Nigeria over the weekend.
Jordan Zemura came close to giving the Warriors an early goal but it was not to be. Instead, it was Mugisha who put Rwanda ahead with a 40th-minute strike. The APR FC star volleyed into the net from a pass outside the edge of the box following a lateral free-kick played from the left. The 29-year-old shot through a crowded box beating goalkeeper Washington Arubi who dived late to his left.
Zimbabwe came strong in the second half by making a couple of changes to turn the game to their side but Kaizer Chiefs Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari kept frustrating Zimbabwe with telling saves to deny the hosts.
With the win, Rwanda moved to third in their group with 11 points, six behind leaders South Africa who takes on Nigeria later in the day.
