Kenya are through to the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) following DR Congo’s 2-0 win over Angola on Thursday night.

The results also mean that pre-tournament favourites Angola are out of the competition with four points and will join Zambia as the teams to be eliminated from the Group stage.
To the game that was played at the MISC Kasarani, both teams came into the clash with contrasting situations; Angola needing a win to guarantee progress, and DR Congo aware that victory would put them within touching distance of the knockout stages.
It was a game of too many chances in the first half from both countries but none saw the better of the other in the first half. But Congo broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Âgée Basiala’s pinpoint free-kick delivery found Azam bound Japhte Kitambala, who rose highest to glance his header into the bottom corner.
Angola didn’t relent in their bid to find an equalizer and as they begun to push forward following a flurry of substitution in attack, Congo fired again. From a 70th-minute corner, Basiala once more provided the assist, delivering a teasing cross that Jonathan Mokonzi met at the near post to double the lead.
The results now leaves DR Congo to face Morocco in a do or die clash as both seek to finish top with Kenya set to face Zambia on Sunday as they seek the top position too.
