Egyptian giants Zamalek SC have unveiled Kenya Under 20 captain Baron Ochieng as a free agent after terminating his contract with Sofapaka FC.

Ochieng captained Kenya in the Africa Cup of Nations Under 20 tournament hosted in Egypt in May this year where the Rising Stars was eliminated from the group stage.

On unveiling the right back who has signed a four year deal, Zamalek said, “From the jungles of Nairobi to Mit Okba, welcome the new Kenyan arrival, Baron Ochieng.”

Ochieng will be registered as an underage player joins a team that currently sit second in the Nile Egyptian League table with 10 points from 3 victories, a draw and a loss.

Despite the conclusion of the summer transfer window at the end of August, FIFA regulations allow clubs to still register players with no clubs in Bosman deals.

Ochieng began his professional career at second-tier side Kibera Black Stars before moving to Sofapaka in 2023, where he quickly established himself as a key player. He first earned a call-up to the Kenya U18 side for the 2023 CECAFA Junior Championship before later featuring for the Rising Stars during the Four Nations Tournament in Malawi in March 2024.

In June, Ochieng made his debut for the senior squad, receiving his first-ever Harambee Stars call-up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ivory Coast and Burundi.

The player will be hoping he can play a part for his new team when they take on Masry in the sixth matchday of the Egyptian Premier this weekend.
