Harambee Starlets keeper trainer Rosemary Aluoch Kadondi popularly known as ‘Mara’ is dead after a short illness.

 

The 44-year-old passed on while undergoing treatment at Kasarani’s St Francis Hospital on Sunday.

 

Apart from being the Starlets keeper trainer, Aluoch doubled up as the team’s kit manager and has served the team since 2016 having played for Starlets during her heydays.

 

She was part of the Starlets team from 1995 to 2012 and featured in Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers against Djibouti and Cameroon in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

She was also part of the Starlets team that represented Kenya in the Africa Women Championship in 2014 where Kenya lost 1-0 to Rwanda. Locally, Aluoch who was a keeper represented Makolanders, Minicuca and Makongeni Youth Club.

 

Condolences have been flowing for Aluoch with Deputy Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues and Competitions manager Doreen Nabwire who worked with Aluoch describing her as a role model and one who was dedicated to her work.

 

“A role model! Teammate and the longest-serving member of Harambee Starlets both as a player and as a kit manager! Damn. she loved her job!! 2016 was a great year, we had loads of fun and I will forever hold dear and cherish the memories! Rest easy my friend!” Nabwire noted on Twitter.

 

Aluoch won the Community Hero Award during the 2017 Sports Personality of the Year (SOYA) gala for her role in grooming less fortunate and talented young players through the “Dadrege” Youth Football Academy in Dandora.
