Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu has been linked with a move to Serie A side Atalanta.

 

The 25-year-old has been a subject of speculations in recent weeks with Celtic and Borussia Dortmund said to be keen on the player who only spent a season and a half at Belgian side Gent.

According to the Italian football portal La Gazzetta dello Sport, Atalanta is keeping an eye on Okumu despite being linked with Colombian Janer Lucumí; the club is currently in the market for a replacement of Merih Demiral who is set to move to Juventus on a permanent deal.

 

Okumu whose agent handles some of the best talents in Europe including Bukayo Saka of Arsenal and Man United’s Jadon Sancho has three years left on his current Gent deal and has a market value of €4.5 (Approx KES 552M) as per the Transfermarket.

 

Okumu began his football in the Kenyan Premier League with Chemelil Sugar FC where he only stayed for six months before moving to South Africa with Free States Stars. A move to the States ensued where he represented AFC Ann Arbor and Real Monarchs before arriving in Europe with Swedish side Elfsborg in 2019.
