Tanzania Premier League side Coastal Union has confirmed that they have parted ways with Kenyan coach Yusuf Chipo.

Chipo was handed the reigns of the team in September this year after Union lost head coach  Juma Mgunda to Simba SC; the sacking comes just a day before the team faces Yanga SC in a league game.

In a statement, the club noted: “Our club, Coastal Union, is informing the public that they have reached an agreement with head coach Yusuf Chipo to terminate his contract from yesterday December 19, 2022.

“The management thanks Chipo for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors. For this period when the team will not have a head coach, starting with our match today against Yanga SC, the team will be under the guidance of assistant coach Joseph Lazaro.

“At this time when the search for a new head coach is already ongoing, the management urges Coastal Union members and fans to be calm during these trying times.”

Chipo leaves the club placed 13th on the log after winning just four of the 16 games played so far this season. He recorded three draws and nine losses with a return of 15 points; just four points above the relegation zone.

Chipo has previously handled AFC  Leopards and Harambee Stars in an assistant role capacity, Bandari FC, and Ulinzi Stars (Technical Director). He becomes the second Kenyan coach to be sacked by a Tanzanian outfit in the last one month following the departure of the current Police FC boss Francis Baraza who was sent packing by Kagera Sugar.
