Grant who is taking over from Aljosa Asanovic is not new to the African continent having worked with the Ghanaian national team previously.
“We believe that with the coming in of Mr. Avram Grant as Chipolopolo coach, we will be back among the elite of the African game. Mr. Grant is a well-known figure in the global game having served in some of the most prestigious posts before,” FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said.
“We have been working tirelessly to ensure that the Chipolopolo returns among the elite of the African game. Looking at the progress made in the recent past, we are confident that with the coming in of a new team on the technical bench, we will reach a point of completion.”
On his side, Grant said: “I came here as a football coach, Zambia has the potential, we (need to) set the target of what we want to achieve and I want to thank president Andrew (Kamanga) and the (selection) Committee for choosing me and giving me the opportunity to share my experience and take Zambian football forward which I think Zambia deserves.”
Apart from Ghana, Grant has handled the Israel national team on an international level. At the club level, he has coached English Premier League sides Chelsea, West Ham and Portsmouth among other teams in Serbia, Thailand, India, and Israel.
