Sundowns took the lead in the 11th minute when the same De Reuck towered above the Galaxy defence to head in the opener after connecting well to a Sirino cross. Sundowns came close to finding their second goal of the night when Themba Zwane put Sirino through on goal, but he rushed his shot and failed to find the net.

Sundowns had to wait until the 64th minute to find a second when Themba Zwane and Sipho Mbule played a few sublime one-touch passes between each other before finding Sirino who put a simple pass across goal for Shalulile to finish. Djakaridja Traoré was to get the hosts consolation from the penalty spot in extra time.

The win sees Sundowns extend the gap between them and second-placed Richards Bay to 19 points with the Brazilians scheduled to take on Sekhukhune United in their next league game.
