South Africa giants Mamelodi Sundowns are set to release Harambee Stars captain Brian Onyango Mandela when his contract expires in June 2023.

In a bid to reduce their wage bill and trim their squad next season, Soccer Laduma reports that Onyango is among the players that the Brazilians will release with the club yet to offer him a new deal despite having less than three months left on his current deal.

“Big defender Brian Onyango will see his contract expire at the end of the campaign and sources have revealed that Dons have not put a new deal on the table for the Kenyan,” Laduma noted.

Other players who the club might release include Gift Motupa and Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene who is set to focus on becoming a goalkeeper coach.

Onyango moved to Sundowns in October 2020 as a free agent having been out of action for some time after leaving Maritzburg United. He is one of the experienced players in the South African top-flight league having arrived in the country in 2012 from Tusker FC when Santos FC acquired his services.

He has been a mainstay in the Kenya national team and is expected to be handed a call-up by head coach Engin Firat ahead of this month’s friendly games against Burundi.
