Arsenal have been eliminated from the UEFA Europa League following their 5-3 loss in post-match penalties against Sporting Lisbon after a 1-1 draw in normal time on Thursday night.
After a 2-2 draw in the first leg, Granit Xhaka was to give Arsenal a lead but they will be worried by the condition of defenders Takehiro Tomiyasu and William Saliba who were forced off in the game with injuries.

And after squandering a series of chances, the home side was made to pay as Sporting’s Pedro Gonçalves caught keeper Aaron Ramsdale off his line, chipping the goalkeeper halfway out to level matters.
Despite half an hour to go, neither side could then find a late winner, and the match headed into extra time with no side getting the better of the other despite Sporting finishing the game with ten men following the sending off of Manuel Ugarte. With penalties left to separate the two, Arsenal were undone when Gabriel Martinelli missed his kick.
Earlier on in Spain, Manchester United progressed to the quarterfinals of the competition following a 1-0 (5-1 aggregate) win over Real Betis with Marcus Rashford scoring the lone goal.
