Cristiano Ronaldo once again broke another record as Portugal begun their Euro 2024 Qualifiers with a convincing 4-0 win over Liechtenstein on Thursday night.

Ronaldo became the most-capped player in the history of men’s football as he started his 197th game for Portugal and capped it with two goals in the second half – a penalty followed by a free-kick – after Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva had already found the net.

In another game of the day, England’s journey in the Qualification started with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Italy.

Declan Rice slotted from close range to give England a 13th-minute lead before Harry Kane struck from the penalty spot to double the Three Lions’ advantage and cement his place as the team’s all-time top goalscorer.

Debutant Mateo Retegui pulled one back early in the second half for the hosts but they couldn’t find a way past their visitors despite a late red card for Luke Shaw.
