Gor Mahia head coach Johnny McKinstry believes his squad depth won him the game against Police in round 26 of FKF Premier League action.

Gor went back to the summit of the league with the win after Tusker lost to Nzoia and while the Irishman admitted that Police gave them a run for their money in the tie, calling upon able players from the bench saw them over the line in the tie.

“We knew Police were weak in setpieces and it’s something we had worked on. We defended well but they gave us all kinds of problems in the last minutes because they had nothing to lose at that point. Bringing on Sylvester Owino from the bench to see us through the last minutes points out to the benefit of having a good squad depth and Im happy with the results,” McKinstry said.

The tactician, however, wasn’t pleased with the condition of the MISC Kasarani pitch stating that it worsened the condition of play and sapped energy from both sets of players.

“It was difficult for both teams to play with that kind of water on the pitch. That kind of pitch saps a lot of energy from players because you’ll need a lot of energy slipping, coming up, and going again each time but I think by boys coped well with the conditions,” he added.

Attention for Gor Mahia now shifts to their next game against FC Talanta who held Bandari to a 1-1 draw away from home in their last outing.
