Serie A side Atalanta has rejected Manchester United’s bid for striker Rasmus Hojlund the Athletic reports.
According to the tabloid, United wanted to use a player believed to Mason Greenwood as part of the deal but Atalanta are insisting on a cash-only deal.
The 20-year-old Danish striker has quickly become Erik ten Hag’s No.1 option after a deal for Harry Kane became unfeasible, but with FFP constraints on United’s budget, Atalanta’s current demands for £85m are deemed too steep, hence the desire to swap unnamed players.
Other details in the report say that United retains an interest in Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat but it is predicated on sales. Another target is Inter Milan keeper Andre Onana who the tabloid say is willing to rejoin ten Hag but both clubs haven’t agreed on anything yet concerning the Cameroonian.

Apart from Greenwood, players that are alleged to be available as part of the deals include Donny Van de Beek, Fred, Scott McTominay and Anthony Elanga; the later currently being linked with a move to Everton.
United had already kicked off their preseason preps with a win against Leeds on Wednesday and are set to travel to America for further games with Ten Hag having hoped that a chunk of his new signings would have joined him in the States.
