Harry Maguire has confirmed that he will no longer be Manchester United captain after a talk with manager Erik ten Hag.
The England international in a statement on Twitter said that ten Hag told him that he will be changing his captain ahead of next season with the defender wishing his successor the best in the role.
The England international was handed the armband just six months after his big-money move from Leicester by then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he made a note to thank the Norwegian in his statement.
After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain. He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.

Maguire’s role at United has become greatly diminished since the arrival of Erik ten Hag last summer, with the Dutchman favoring Lisandro Martínez and Raphaël Varane at the back.
In his absence, ten Hag tasked Bruno Fernandes with leading the team, and the Portuguese is expected to be given the role on a full-time basis.
Maguire has been linked with a move to West Ham with David Moyes said to be keen on getting the player on a loan deal.
