Uganda will be up against Zanzibar in the final of the 2023 CECAFA U15 Championship that is being hosted at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Jinga-Uganda.
Uganda saw off Tanzania 2-1 in a tightly contested semifinal while Zanzibar beat South Sudan 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in full time in the second semis played on Monday.

Uganda had taken a 2-0 lead through Abubakali Walusimbi and Samuel Mubiru in the first half but Tanzania pulled a goal back through Feisal Juma seven minutes from time for a tense finish. It was Uganda’s fourth straight win in the competition after they also saw off Djibouti, South Sudan, and Ethiopia in the group stage.
In the second semis, Abdulhafidh Salim gave Zanzibar the lead after only five minutes, but Anur Loburo leveled matters after 34 minutes. During the penalty shootout, Zanzibar’s goalkeeper Mahir Amour saved Ajo Lomoro and Victor Elizaya’s kicks.
Hosts Uganda are looking to defend their title after winning the last edition of the competition held in Asmara, Eritrea in 2019.
The tournament attracted Uganda, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Tanzania, Somalia, South Sudan, Djibouti and Ethiopia.
