The Kenya U18 side beat Sudan 5-0 in their opening game of the CECAFA U18 Tournament game staged at the Kenyatta Stadium, Kisumu on Saturday 25th November.
Louise Ingavi gave the hosts a 7th minute lead after being put through by Rainbow FC’s Tyron Kariuki with the latter doubling Kenya’s lead in the 29th minute.
Aldrine Kibet furthered the lead in the 33rd minute and Ingavi scored his second of the match just before the halftime break for a 4-0 lead at the break. Elly Owade was to add Kenya’s fifth late in the game after coming off from the bench in what proved to be a one-sided affair in front of the jubilant Kisumu fans.
In the tournament’s opening fixture between Somalia and Rwanda, team Rwanda emerged victorious with a 1-0-win, courtesy of a goal scored by Bobo Sibomana Sultan despite being given a red card in the first half.
Kenya tops group A and they play their second match against second placed Rwanda on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, 12 noon.
The competition continues on Sunday in Kakamega with two group B matches. The early kick off will be Zanzibar vs South Sudan and at 3pm Tanzania will take on Uganda.
